THE OPPORTUNITY SCAN Health Plan's Washington DC office is located in the heart of downtown Washington, DC and is responsible for federal, state, and community public policy strategies and government relations activities for SCAN Health Plan. The internship provides an opportunity for current masters-level students to explore advocacy, public policy, and political affairs. As a member of the SCAN Health Plan's Public, Community, and Government Affairs (PGA) team, the intern will focus on public policy issues of importance to the company ranging from health equity to Medicare Advantage, Part D, and Medicaid payment policy. The intern will interact with SCAN staff from multiple departments across the company and have the opportunity to join SCAN staff in meetings with policymakers in the legislative and executive branches, industry trade groups, and non-governmental organizations that influence public policy. The position will report to our Senior Policy Advisor. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES FEDERAL AFFAIRS - 50% * Write policy briefs and contribute to research, policy memos, fact sheets, and newsletters. * Attend, take notes, and report back on relevant legislative hearings, policy summits, and other state and federal policy events. * Analyze and track federal and state level health policy legislative and regulatory activities. MISCELLANEOUS ACTIVITIES - 20% * Participate in strategic research discussions. * Support project planning, execution, and analyses. * Assist in preparation of presentations. * Provide assistance, as needed, on state policy issues. * Support the PGA team as necessary. CAPSTONE PROJECT - 30% Special project based upon real-time opportunities and Intern interest. QUALIFICATIONS Functional and Technical Skills * BA or greater in Business Administration, Public Health/Health Administration, or related field * Must be a Full-time Masters level student * This position does not provide sponsorship for employment status * Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word). * Ability to work remotely, with some in-person meetings, dependent upon COVID-19 guidance.
