EPI Power is seeking various levels of safety personnel to work on data center projects located in Des Moines, IA. We are looking to hire Project Safety Engineers, Project Safety Managers and Safety Manager.


Project Safety Engineer:

The Project Safety Engineer is responsible for creating a positive safety culture on an assigned project site while supporting our zero injury culture, and eliminating risk and claim exposure. This role serves as a safety resource and actively assists in implementing company standards and programs, maintaining safety compliance documentation, and auditing jobsites for safety compliance. The Project Safety Engineer typically reports to the Safety Manager.

  • Conduct safety audits and inspections on assigned project site(s); identify potential hazards and process improvement opportunities
  • Educate project team on safety through training and mentoring; assist with safety orientation
  • Identify safety improvement initiatives and perform safety training
  • Investigate incidents and near misses; assist with claims management; recommend corrective and preventative measures based on identified incidents
  • Participate in the creation of the project safety plan
  • Support administration of company safety procedures and policies
  • Assemble and maintain site safety documentation (i.e. hot work permits, GFCI inspections, confined space permits, excavation permits)
  • Perform industrial hygiene assessments
  • Assist in the analysis of project safety performance (i.e. inspection results, injury rates, safety violations); recommend process improvements
  • Serve as a resource for safety issues or concerns, business unit safety committees and staff meetings
  • Ensure safety and protective equipment is maintained and inspected per regulations


Project Safety Manager:

The Project Safety Manager supplies site safety leadership and oversight for an assigned project(s). The Project Safety Manager functions as an expert resource to project teams for consistent implementation of company safety standards and programs, provides project-wide safety training, supports preconstruction safety planning, and performs jobsite safety auditing and incident investigating. The Project Safety Manager reports to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager and may manage other Project Safety Managers assigned to the project(s).

  • Keeps project site informed of safety regulatory changes and implementation of updates
  • Facilitates safety knowledge and expertise to project team through training and mentoring
  • Champions positive safety culture within assigned project site including completing projects without safety incidents and eliminating/controlling safety risk and claim exposure
  • Facilitates safety inspections to evaluate levels of compliance; supports inspections by third party representatives and OSHA inspectors if Safety Manager is unavailable
  • Assembles and maintains site safety documentation (i.e. hot work permits, GFCI inspections, confined space permits, excavation permits)
  • Participates in the creation of the project safety plan
  • Performs project industrial hygiene assessments (i.e. noise monitoring, air monitoring)
  • Verifies and assists in assembling of incident investigation facts for evaluation and 'How It Happened' reports
  • Proactively identifies safety improvement initiatives or trainings based on observations and industry knowledge
  • Ensures injury claims are reported to the claim coordinator; actively assists Safety Manager with managing all claims including the Return to Work program
  • Tracks and trends project safety performance (i.e. inspection results, injury rates, safety violations) and recommends corrective/preventive measures for the project team.
  • Participates in safety preconstruction meetings and pre-task safety planning.
  • Supports administration of Company 'Serious Safety Violation Policy', 'Vehicle Safe Driver Policy', 'Drug and Alcohol Policy'.


Safety Manager:

The Safety Manager supplies safety leadership and oversight for an assigned region. The Safety Manager functions as an expert resource to the business for consistent implementation of company safety standards and programs, provides safety training, supports preconstruction safety planning, and performs jobsite safety auditing and incident investigations. The Safety Manager reports to the Regional Safety Manager or Safety Director and may manage Project Safety Managers and/or other Safety Managers assigned to the business. This position requires travel up to 50% of the time.


  • Keep business apprised of safety regulatory changes and facilitate the implementation of these changes in the field.
  • Provide general counsel, advice, and recommendations for safety programs and activities, work practices, company rules and procedures, and state workers' compensation law, for the assigned business management team.
  • Support site inspections by third-party representatives and OSHA inspectors.
  • Facilitate safety inspections and verify adequacy of corrective actions.
  • Ensure any employee has the authority to stop work they feel is unsafe until the issue(s) can be resolved.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the Safety Committee and work to implement a positive, employee-supported program.
  • Assemble and present incident investigation facts for evaluation and action by Safety Accountability Committee.
  • Facilitate, through the business management team, communication regarding safety issues and best practices throughout the organization.
  • Generate and provide high-quality safety training.
  • Verify project team incident investigations and How It Happened reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform inspections of all construction projects to evaluate levels of compliance.
  • Perform industrial hygiene assessments (noise monitoring, air monitoring, etc).
  • Support proposal activities for new work by detailing company capabilities and providing appropriate responses to client's questions.
  • Participate in the creation of project safety plans.
  • Represent the assigned business in all safety-related hearings (OSHA, etc.).
  • Support administration of company Vehicle Safe Driver Policy.
  • Support administration of company Drug and Alcohol Policy.


    What We're Looking For:

    • Education: An industry related Bachelor's degree is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Safety professional certification is desirable (CHST, OSHA 501, OSHA 30, and/or STS).
    • Experience:
      • Project Safety Engineer: Previous internship experience in a construction-related safety role is preferred.
      • Project Safety Manager: Work in a formal safety capacity and two years construction experience is preferred. Data center construction experience is preferred.
      • Safety Manager: Four years of construction work experience is required. Experience as a safety professional with a demonstrated progression of management responsibility is preferred.
    • Technology: Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Employee should have the ability to learn other specific software.
    • Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate initiative, independent judgment, project management and organizational skills. They should also show strong attention to detail, verbal and written communication, coaching, time management, flexibility and problem solving abilities. This individual will speak in front of large groups and must maintain a high level of integrity.
