Technologist operates and maintains specialized ultrasound equipment for use in performing ultrasound procedures that required independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Consistently utilizing a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria) appropriate for pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients served in the assigned service area.


Responsibilities

Key Accountability

* Communicates effectively with physicians, patients, families, nursing staff and other Health System personnel.

* Optional: Group member of Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography - must attain 10 CMEs/ year

Key Accountability

* Performs echocardiography/vascular exams related to diagnostic procedures.

* Exerts independent judgment and is responsible for the echocardiographic/vascular quality in the performance of these exams.

* Demonstrates self-development by keeping abreast of current echo/vascular trends.

* Maintains responsibility for echo/vascular equipment, supplies and records.

* Recognizes isolation situations and takes appropriate precautions per current hospital policy.

* Cleans with approved cleaning agent, stocks equipment and outpatient exam area.

* Participates in on-call duties as assigned.

* Maintains responsibility for the mobile vehicles by adhering to UPH-DM and departmental policies and logs. Maintains vehicles in a clean and clutter - free environment.

* Must travel in less than desirable weather and road conditions to rural hospital accounts. Loads and unloads equipment, prepares the equipment for the exams, and completes all necessary paperwork for the billing process.

* Attends department meetings, hospital in-services and education offerings to maintain clinical expertise.

Key Accountability

* This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH-DM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.

* Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

* Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

* Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.

* Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

* Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

* Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the designated time frame.

* Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste, and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

* Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.

* Certification eligible by the ARDMS or CCI

* Comply with all netlearning, classes, and certifications required for the job.

Experience:

* 6 months of hospital/ clinical experience in the area of cardiovascular sonography

License(s)/Certification(s):

* Certification by ARDMS or CCI within one year of graduation for new graduates

* Certification by ARDMS or CCI within one year of hire for experienced sonographers

* Valid Driver's License when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Read, Write and Speak fluent English.

* Multicultural and Diversity sensitivity.

* Microsoft Office - basic computer skills.

* Customer/ patient focused.

* Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.

Other:

* Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

* Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental, or own vehicle.
