The Certified Pharmacy Technician is accountable for facilitating responsible provision of pharmacy services through the performance of hospital pharmacy functions, such as the preparation and delivery of medications to nursing and/or ancillary departments under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Pick and deliver drugs to patient care areas, including the restocking of automated medication distribution system components.
Perform packaging, manipulative or repetitive tasks relating to the processing of a medication order. Affix required labels upon any container of drug.
Prepackage or label multi-dose and single-dose packages of drugs.
Perform drug compounding processes.
Inspect drug supplies provided and controlled by an Iowa-licensed pharmacy but located or maintained outside the pharmacy department, including but not limited to a hospital patient care unit. Perform pharmacy drug inventory control duties, including checking pharmacy stock shelves for outdated drugs and assisting with annual inventory counts.
Miscellaneous - tasks as directed.
Process wholesale drug orders, including the submission of orders, the receipt and processing of drug deliveries from drug wholesalers, reconciling products received with packing slips or invoices, and affixing appropriate inventory or price stickers to drug stock bottles or containers.
Process pertinent patient information, including information regarding allergies and disease state. Enter patient information into the pharmacy computer system.

* Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
* Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
* Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
* Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

* Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician
* National Pharmacy Technician Certification
* Valid Iowa Driver's License

* Ability to read, write, and speak English.
