RTI is a leader in multi-disciplinary research to address complex problems that impact human health. A historical strength, led by RTI's Exposure and Protection (E&P) Group, has been its focus on inhalation exposure assessment and corresponding effects on human health through basic and applied research. Our research program focuses on understanding the characteristics of the aerosol as well as the health outcomes following exposure. These are complemented by strong collaborations in exposure measurement and modeling, particle and chemical speciation, computational modeling, data analytics, and therapeutic drug delivery.
We are seeking to grow our research program by expanding our microbiology capabilities and expertise to the area of microbiome research. To help grow these efforts, we are seeking a creative, dynamic, driven, and detail-oriented Post-Doctoral Research Scientist to assist with this strategic area of research and eventually become a leader in your specific research area of interest.
The postdoctoral fellow will participate in existing projects and lead research to study microorganisms especially the microbiome and microbial products of potential aerosol threats and the impact of these insults on the host microbiome. This will include using standard microbiological techniques for the growth of microorganisms to assess the population, extraction techniques for obtaining the microbiome from multiple matrices, nucleic acid extraction, performing biochemical assays for the assessment of microbial products, molecular methods including PCR, ddPCR, and sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis.
