SUMMARY: Coordinate and manage Quality Assurance department by ensuring quality control procedures are established and followed to meet the customer's requirements by: developing quality assurance systems for incoming raw materials and finished goods, analyzing customer requirements versus test procedures, conducting process capability studies, making test procedure or specification recommendations to the Technical Manager, analyzing raw material test data ensuring material meets specifications, manage the disposition of all non-conforming raw materials, handle all customer complaints, work with APC customers and raw material suppliers for technical interface to analyze root cause and corrective action plans. Coordinate CQI programs within the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation's efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
  • Analyze current test data as compared to feedback from customer complaints, Field Technical Service reports and customer specifications to determine that quality test procedures ensure compliance with customer end use requirements. Provide recommendations to the Technical Manager on test procedure changes.
  • Ensure compliance with established product testing procedures for both finished products and raw materials. Create and deliver effective presentations for present and potential customers, providing assurance that quality standards are maintained.
  • Conduct the training of the shift Quality Assurance Technicians.
  • Maintain a reporting/audit procedure to ensure that the required testing is being performed in a timely and consistent manner and that the test data is being recorded and filed in such a manner as to allow for easy review and analysis.
  • Travel to the various customer/supplier locations as required.
  • Assist in developing and conducting employee Continuous Quality Improvement training, including accurate application on the job.
  • Manage and develop a staff of Quality Shift Technicians (including back-ups).
  • Maintain and monitor Quality Control/Assurance computer programs to effectively research issues and accurately produce required reports.
  • Supervise all inspection procedures for production to ensure all testing is properly performed.
  • Interface with Field Technical Service, Sales and/or customer plant locations to resolve complaints in a timely fashion:
  • Issue return authorization for defective material where applicable.
  • Manage the re-inspection/rework of returned lots of material to determine root cause and extent of defect as well as the placement of good material back into inventory in a timely manner. Recommend root cause corrective action to the Manufacturing Manager and Technical Director.
  • Prepare statistical capability analysis of processes and disseminate the information to appropriate departments.
  • Serve as a member of the "potential customer/supplier task force" and work closely with top level managers to continually broaden our customer base.
  • Provide Plant daily overview of product quality and other miscellaneous points of interest.
  • Comply with all company safety and housekeeping policies.
  • Assure proper handling of hazardous materials used or generated by Quality Control.
  • Support the Division's Product Development Program by providing required testing and evaluation of alternate package structures and styles. Provide lab evaluation/ testing support, as required, on specific packaging development projects.
  • Attend and participate in all company mandated meetings.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Ideal candidates will possess a related Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four year college or university and 4 years related experience and/or training. Candidates should be from the Flexographic printing/converting industry using adhesive lamination. Must possess experience in implementing quality improvement programs and managing a quality lab and directing and developing a team of direct reports.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Salary Description
$72,000 - $82,000 per year
