Job Summary

Work Shift

1 - First Shift

The Senior Engineer - Design invents, designs, documents, builds and tests new solutions for assigned industry and also performs the management roles for these tasks. This role supports design in production, sales, service, troubleshooting and updating. This position is also responsible for analyzing and providing realistic recommendations on structural components to ensure that design meets the design goals and customer needs. This position requires interaction with manufacturing, purchasing, service, sales, dealer and customer aspects of the Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.

2. Lead design efforts including, but not limited to: calculating unknown loading and directions, reviewing existing digital models and provide guidance for creation or modification to use as a basis for Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Develop bill of materials for purchased items, machining, weld and assembly prints using SolidWorkssoftware for manufacturability, cost effectiveness and safety.

3. Analyze production or service issues and create solutions.

4. Manage product development through scheduling and prioritizing project tasks to support Design Engineers and assist Engineering Technicians with all aspects of building and testing prototypes.

5. Mentor team members to ensure their performance exceeds or meets expectations.

6. Test design changes made by technicians.

7. Instruct other users on SolidWorks, PDMWorks, ECN tools and best practices.

Education and/or Experience

- 4-year college degree with a major in Mechanical, Industrial, Agriculture or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years' related experience.

-Or other college degree (2-year or 4-year) with a minimum of 14 years' related experience.

Computer Skills

Proficient with multiple software packages including, but not limited to, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Excel, Access and Word, product design software, PowerPoint, MathCAD, Glovia, Outlook, e-mail and nCode Glyphworks.

Other Skills and Abilities

- Ability to identify the root cause ofmanufactured or purchased component failures.

- Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, including continuous improvement and lean, FEA evaluation, CFD, stress analysis, statistics, strength of materials, hydraulics, electrical systems, design and manufacturing processes.

- Ability to function productively with all internal and external personnel to manage, design, build, sell, service and operate machines.

- Ability to create robust design, identify changes early in the design progress and to recognize design commonality.

- Ability to provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness with customers and peers.

- Demonstration of good oral and written communication skills.

- Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, including continuous improvement and lean, FEA evaluation, CFD, stress analysis, statistics, strength of materials, hydraulics, electrical systems, design and manufacturing processes.

- Ability to effectively manage time and resources to meet the needs and schedules of internal customers and respond immediately to production questions and crisis with solutions.

- Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail.

- Ability to understand manufacturability to ensure that the right configuration and materials are developed while integrating machine performance, costs, and reliability which is a direct link to the Company profitability.

- Ability to develop a test plan, submit a detailed corporate test request, be present during execution of the test, and review/process test data, providing meaningful results.

Travel

Up to 20% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.

Work Location

ONSITE: A team member's day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
