Job Description

Danfoss in Ames has an opening for a Fabrication Technician. The hours for this position are Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:00 pm with the potential for overtime.

The Fabricator/Welder/designer is responsible for the fabrication, welding, repair or retrofitting of equipment for the facilities. The positions services performed may include, though is not limited to: Layout/shop math related to complex metal fabrication, material reduction, fitting, tacking, welding, assembly of components, and shop cleanliness. Fabrication equipment and forklift operations when trained and authorized to perform such duties. Machine setup, assembly of components, custom fabrication, Material preparation, etc. This position will be responsible for helping in the design of lifting devices for the facility to ensure a safe and ergonomic workplace. CAD will be utilized in the design phase for lifting devices and to make files compatible for utilizing a waterjet machine. You will need to adhere to customer drawings and specifications to produce the best product for the customer.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to, the following.

  • Utilizing MIG, TIG, and stick welding to manufacture items and components
  • Welding or joining metals and other materials per customer specification and prints
  • Operate a wide range of tools, machinery, and welding equipment
  • Properly utilize required safety protective equipment
  • Cleaning work area, tools, and equipment daily
  • Utilize CAD software to design projects and lifting devices
  • Represent Danfoss in a professional courteous manner and bridge communication with all departments and customers to ensure a proper job is completed to customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate possesses these skills:

Required:

High School diploma or GED. Minimum 1-2 years experience in welding and fabrication, ability to draw using AUTOCAD, flexibility to work overtime as required

Preferred qualifications:

Associates Degree in welding, welding certifications, 1-2years using AUTOCAD (or alike) CAD design software.

Job Criteria:

Individuals must be able stand, crouch, for long periods of time and be able to team lift heavy objects. They must be a self-starter with a good attitude and have a safety-first mindset.
