Responsibilities

OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS Prepares and distributes medication products to fulfill medication orders (C) Accurately compounds sterile and non-sterile products, including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, in accordance with facility, state, and federal laws and regulations (C) Answers the telephone, identifying self and department and directing calls to appropriate personnel in a professional and courteous manner (C) Ensures appropriate and adequate medication inventory by restocking, rotating stock, removing expired medications, packaging medications, and ordering supplies (C) Accurately performs data entry for patient billing (F) Ensures proper medication storage (O) Maintains a neat, clean, orderly, and secure department (F) COMPLIANCE Ensures the appropriate preparation and dispersal of medications in accordance with facility, state, and national laws and regulations (O) Assures compliance with HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other state and federal regulations guiding healthcare (C) Adheres to policies and procedures of UPH-DM (C) Prioritizes the importance of preventing errors, accidents, and infections within the workplace and reports potential or actual concerns immediately (C) Completes all competency and skills assessment requirements (O) Participates in and completes pharmacy technician orientation (O) OTHER FUNCTIONS: The following are performed on an as needed basis: This position may be assigned a specific mission in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH-DM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained Functions other than described above may be needed occasionally required to provide optimal patient care


Qualifications

Education: Must be high school graduate or equivalent. Must be able to proficiently read, write and speak English. Must have strong math skills, with some basic algebra. Some college training preferred

Experience: One year of experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy desirable. Experience in a health care facility desirable. Proficient in using computer systems

License(s)/Certification(s): Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist-Intern (if enrolled in a college of pharmacy) with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, prior to the commencement of employment. Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other nationally recognized certification provider. Must maintain a current Iowa Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist-Intern registration and be in good standing with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy. Must provide a photocopies of renewal certificates to the Pharmacy Management Team prior to the expiration dates of current certificates.
